Resistance 2 puts you in the heroic role of Sgt. Nathan Hale. View larger.

This sequel introduces several new Chimeran enemies with a host of new powers. View larger.
Resistance 2 takes up right where Resistance: Fall of Man left off. Hale is kidnapped by a black ops group in London and forced to Iceland for research testing. The full scope of what happens in Iceland is a mystery, but the game reveals that as Hale wrestles with the insidious Chimera war machine, he must also battle the virus raging inside his body that threatens to transform him into the very creature he fights against.

The Return of the Chimera
The Chimera are the main enemies of the Resistance franchise. For those new to the story, it is believed that the Chimera are of extraterrestrial origin. Yet, it is known that their army expands by infecting humans with a virus that transforms humans into Chimera while inside a cocoon. These creatures are much stronger than humans, and they usually have multiple yellow eyes. They have remarkable healing abilities and thrive in very cold temperatures, which has led them to alter the Earth's climate to a much lower temperature that better suits their habitat requirements.

Resistance 2 introduces several new Chimeran enemies with a host of new powers. A few new characters include the Chameleon, a creature that can cloak itself completely and kill a player in one, destructive blow, and the Grim, which are a terrifying species that attack in hordes.

The Battle Moves to the United States
After the brief opening scenes in London and then Iceland, game play jumps ahead two years and across the globe to San Francisco. Giant, mile-long motherships slowly cruise through the skies, demolishing the city with fiery beams. The city is burned and mangled, and it appears that there will be little to no survivors. As the battle continues across the United States, you're sure to encounter many new, deranged, and much more powerful enemies.

In Chicago, you'll be joined by a squad of soldiers, all carrying different weapons. To survive and move through the level, you'll need to work together, moving from cover to cover, setting up your squad in a smart and defensive manner. These are just a few examples of the challenging levels you'll encounter as you battle your way across the country to save humankind. And if you're hoping for new weapons, Resistance 2 won't leave you disappointed. The US-based campaign is loaded with tons of new weapons to enhance the overall game play and first-person shooter experience.

Online game play Goes BIG
Powered by Insomniac Games' third-generation PlayStation 3 technology, Resistance 2 delivers several console gaming breakthroughs. Most impressive are the stand-alone, class-based, online co-operative campaign mode that can accommodate up to eight players, and the mind-blowing, 60-player, squad-based online competitive multiplayer battle fest. This unprecedented 60-player option could revolutionize online multiplayer game play and is sure to provide countless hours of action-packed fun.

Resistance 2, set in the United States, is loaded with new weapons, enemies, and an unprecedented online gaming experience.

4 out of 5 stars It works, on paper   September 8, 2010

This game works on paper. every weapon is balanced and tuned with a secondary fire, the campaign is filled with massive vistas (some of which are moving), and the multiplayer supports 60 people. It really had potential, but the follow-through was lacking. The 1950's environment isn't as fleshed out as say Fallout 3, the missions feel repetitive and shallow, and the ai is downright terrible. The single player campaign is not as deep as you would expect, the ai differs between moronic or ultra aware, running past your troops to find you hidden in a corner and constantly trying to melee you, even the ones with guns. The only difficult part about the bosses is the constant barrage of one hits kills. Honestly i had more trouble with the 2nd boss than all of Demon's Souls (look it up much more enjoyable) combined because of the cheap one-shots. The multiplayer is where the game could shine but as of this time doesn't. WARNING: if you expect the competitive multiplayer to be the saving grace of this game be warned at most 200 people play competitively without being team killers or laggers. Speaking of lag it is supposed to be nonexistant but you can tell they just covered it up when people kill your without the firing animation playing at all. The one thing about this game that works is co-op. I must admit it is fun to play and could be potentially a time sink. With all these problems however it is impossible to rate this greater than 3 stars, though it does have moments of brillence

just try it its so much fun to run around shootin aliens. the online cooperative is the best mode to play in, its fun and challenging to have other people out there helping (or hindering sometimes) your mission.

4 out of 5 stars Fun shoot 'em up   August 22, 2010

This game is much improved over the first. The controls, AI, and graphics are the biggest improvements. The gun play is solid, the multiplayer is very fun with 60 players at a time so you're never far from a fight or help from a teammate. Give it a 4 out of 5, and it's a must have for people who like Doom or Wolfenstein games.

4 out of 5 stars Gotta love a game that isn't a carbon copy of the first   August 16, 2010

This is an amazing game. And my gripes are few. The goods here are that it's more colorful than the first and some of the enemies are massive, which is always fun. The new weapons are all worth using and some of the old ones have been tweaked to perfection. So why am I giving this game a 4? Well, certain parts of it simply feel unbalanced where the difficulty is concerned. What I mean is that sometimes the fight getting you to a boss is much more difficult than the boss itself. And some of the earlier stages are more difficult than those later in the game. You'd expect this sort of imbalance in the real world, but it just feels wrong when it shows up in a video game. This really isn't a major drawback, but I don't feel comfortable not mentioning it. And it's the ONLY thing keeping this game from being a 5. It is one of the most engaging first person shooters out there. Don't let it pass you by.

5 out of 5 stars Not better than first but still great!   July 27, 2010

Hey all this is Sam AKA Para in the gaming review community. This is one of many gaming reviews I will be starting for Amazon, so I hope you enjoy. Going to be talking about Resistance 2 and what I think is a great second edition to the original game. First off let's talk about the story which I have to say is great and very well written. The voice over acting is outstanding and makes it feel like you are in the story. Taking place after the first game this game seems to stay on track and not go into a whole new story line which is a +. The cut scenes are phenomenal and will have you wanting to see more after and before each mission. The ending was good but without any details being said I was a little sad that is how it ended.

Now for the gameplay, it was nice visually and audio wise. With a good tv everything seems to come out at you graphically. It is a big improvement and so well detailed. The sound is also amazing, bullet passing your head just have this sense that they are coming out of your screen and literally next to you. The environments are well detailed and have great sound effects to go along with them. Controls for the game are the same which is nice, always hate when the new version changes from the original but not in this case. Boss fights are bigger and better and have you fearing how in the world you are going to kill something like that but that is what makes this game exciting.

Now for online/multiplayer which I can say is very fun because I love how they made classes and xp to level up each. Team work is very important and it is nice to have a medic and a tank work together to mow down incoming enemies. The missions that they put for co-op are very fun and enjoyable over and over and being able to bring a friend along is very nice. Competitive is also fun and intense but they did pull it off nicely. As I said the xp system is nice for gaining new guns and abilities which makes it even more worthwhile to level up and play online so you can own the next noob with lower level guns lol. There is a lot of replay value cause of this xp system and the co-op modes will have you coming back for more and trying to beat each level on the hardest difficulty with friends.

Overall great game and is defiantly GOTY game material. If you have not played the first, do so and then pick this up.

Score out of 5

Concept/Story: 5*, Just awesome, picks up from the original and goes down a linear road so it is not off topic. Voice acting and cut scenes add to the excitement.

Graphics: 5*, Great and very detailed. You will be at awe at some of the enemy details and the environment. Water looks great in the game and the lighting was very well done.

Sound: 5*, The sounds just flow with the environment and that effects of the guns and explosions make it feel like you are one step closer from actually being in the game.

Entertainment Value: 5*, Fun with friends and even solo. I have to say though more enjoyable with friends and playing co-op.

Control: 5*, Not really hard to learn if you played the first, easy if you are new.

Replay Value: 5*, Playing with friends just makes this game so replayable and with the xp system to gain new stuff you will want to max out and show off.

Thank you for your time, hope this review helps with your decision to buy the game. Take my word or don't take it, but this is a game you will be happy with purchasing.
